8th Pay Commission Latest News: Historic decision for salary hike of Central Government Employees, the government on Thursday decided to set up the 8th Pay Commission to revise salaries of central government employees and allowances of pensioners.

Let us tell you that The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the formation of the 8th Pay Commission, as announced by Information & Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The commission will review and recommend salary structures, pensions, and allowances for central government employees, with a focus on implementation starting from 2026. The appointment of the Chairman and two members for the commission will be finalized soon.

Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that the 7th Pay Commission, implemented in 2016, remains in effect until 2026. To ensure timely recommendations and implementation of revisions, the government has taken the proactive step of constituting the 8th Pay Commission ahead of schedule.

Anticipation Around the 8th Pay Commission

Over one crore central government employees and pensioners are eagerly awaiting the 8th Pay Commission, which is expected to bring revisions to basic pay, pensions, and allowances. These updates aim to address inflationary changes and provide equitable compensation.

 

Ashwini Vaishnaw reaffirmed that the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission have been successfully implemented, and further details regarding the 8th Pay Commission’s members and scope will be disclosed later. The Central Pay Commissions, constituted every 10 years, play a crucial role in evaluating economic factors and ensuring fair remuneration for employees and pensioners.

 

Previous Pay Commission Milestones

The 7th Pay Commission, established on February 28, 2014, during Manmohan Singh’s tenure, submitted its recommendations on November 19, 2015. These changes were implemented starting January 1, 2016, leading to significant adjustments in salaries, pensions, and allowances.

 

The upcoming 8th Pay Commission is expected to bring similar benefits, including adjustments to Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners. Following the established timeline, its recommendations are likely to take effect from January 1, 2026.
