Covid Case In India: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Monday confirmed that the recent rise in Covid-19 cases in India is linked to four Omicron subvariants – LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and NB.1.8.1 – all of which are associated with only mild symptoms so far.

While reassuring the public, ICMR advised individuals with pre-existing health conditions or weakened immunity to remain vigilant, even as it emphasized that there is no reason for panic.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified two of the identified subvariants – LF.7 and NB.1.8 – as “Variants Under Monitoring,” meaning they are being observed closely but are not currently considered dangerous or of high concern.

ICMR Director General Dr. Rajiv Bahl said that surveillance efforts are ongoing to determine why case numbers have increased. He added, “The four variants we’ve detected are all Omicron subvariants. Further testing of samples is underway for more information.” He reiterated that the situation in India is under control, and the government is actively monitoring and preparing for any developments.

Vaccine Preparedness in Place

Dr. Bahl also addressed the issue of vaccines, noting that the government has platforms ready for developing new vaccines if needed. He stated, “If a new variant emerges in the future, the government will assess the effectiveness of current vaccines and, if necessary, develop a targeted vaccine against the new strain.”

Delhi Government: No Cause for Alarm

Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh echoed ICMR’s message, urging people not to worry over the recent uptick in mild Covid-19 cases. As per official figures, Delhi currently has 104 active cases.

“We’ve asked all hospitals to stay prepared with adequate beds, oxygen supply, essential medicines, and equipment. This is just a standard precaution and not a reason to be alarmed,” Singh explained.

He further noted that current patients are exhibiting mild, flu-like symptoms, including fever, cough, and cold, and emphasized that Delhi’s public healthcare system is “200 per cent prepared.”

India Logs 1,009 Active Cases Nationwide

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India recorded 1,009 active Covid-19 cases as of Monday, with 752 new cases recently reported. Among the states, Kerala currently leads with the highest number of active cases at 430.

The health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely while urging citizens to follow standard safety protocols and not succumb to unnecessary fear.
